Literacy – read non-fiction books about winter.

Mathematics – sing number songs such as “This Old Man.” Say nursery rhymes such as “One, Two, Buckle My Shoe.”

Language development – look at family photo albums together. Encourage your child to talk about the events in the pictures: who was there, what happened at the events.

Learning development – play a “shapes” game by showing your child the shapes you have cut out of paper. Help your child name each shape. Then hide one set of shapes, with each shape in a different place. Give your child one shape at a time and have him/her find the matching shape.

Problem solving – play concentration card games such as “Go Fish”.

Personal information – practice writing your phone number in a tray of salt.

Small muscle development – give your child a pair of kitchen tongs and pick up objects using the tongs. Provide a tray with small objects and a pair of tweezers.

Large muscle development – dance to music with a scarf or crepe paper streamers.
